Maletín and Mladějov sandstones of the Holy Trinity Column in Olomouc (Moravia)

Abstract

This memorial column, erected in the early years of the 18th century is the most outstanding example of a type of the monument, which is very typical of Central Europe. Baroque monument with 18 fine religious sculptures, is the work of distinguished Moravian artist Ondřej Zahner. Rising up to a heigh of 36 m it is made of a fine-grained Cenomanian quartz sandstones - the column body from Maletín, statues from Mladějov locality. Physical parameters, chemical and mineralogical composition and Mercury porosimetry of both types of sandstones is given.
