Abstract

The volcaniclastic deposits exposed by tunnel-construction on the D8 highway (in its highest segment crossing the České středohoří Mts.) display variety of fragmentation and sedimentation processes. The tephritic volcaniclastic deposits of the Děčín Fm. were exposed in facies that have not been observed before. The sedimentation starts with proximal deposits of phreatomagmatic activity overlain by tephritic lava flow. Two units of lahar deposits capped by fine-grained epiclastics cover the pyroclastic deposits and lava. The uppermost part of the exposed sediments consists of resedimented pyroclastic deposits alternating with distal phreatostrombolian fall-out deposits and proximal maar-volcano pyroclastic deposits.
