Slope deformations in the Keprník Mt. area, Hrubý Jeseník Mts.
Abstract
The paper presents basic information on spatial distribution and main types of slope deformations in metamorphic rocks of the Silesicum and related deluvial sediments on mountain slopes in the northwestern part of the Hrubý Jeseník Mts. Several more extensive old deep-seated slope deformations, particularly landslides, and a few tens of recent or active smaller forms manifesting themselves by rock-toppling, rock-fall, shallow landsliding, debris flow and minor instabilities of gully banks occur in the study region. Some of them caused indispensable damages, especially in forestry. The largest localities Rudohorský potok, Ve stržích and Jelení stráň are described in more detail. Existing spatial and genetic relations between main landslide areas, debris flows and development of present gully system were examined in some places. The concentration of dangerous hazards into relatively limited region was conditioned by inter- play of favourable geologic structure, dissected high mountain topography with steep slopes, extremity of hydrometeorological conditions, especially precipitation, and last but not least indirect human impacts on the landscape.
