Concentrations of PGE in the Cu-Au(Mo) porphyry-type deposit Kalmakyr, Uzbekistan
Abstract
Platinum group elements were studied in the primary ores from the giant Cu-Au(Mo) porphyry type deposit Kalmakyr, Uzbekistan. Studied disseminated and stockwork type of Cu-Au(Mo) mineralization showed average Pd (55.2 ppb), Pt (5.5 ppb), Rh (0.95 ppb), Ir (0.49 ppb) and Au (4.1 ppm). This type of mineralization is characterized by the presence of pyrite, chalcopyrite, molybdenite and gold. Peak Pd content of 291 ppb was determined in base metal-rich sample hosted in quartz veinlets in granodiorite porphyrite, which contains galena, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, tetrahedrite and gold. Geochemical study showed a significant relationship between Pd and a group of metals (Cu, Ag, Se, S). Mineralogical and subsequent laser ablation ICP-MS study confirmed that Pd is homogeneously distributed in chalcopyrite, containing up to 110 ppm Pd and tetrahedrite, containing up to 20 ppm Pd.
