The exploration of abandoned tailing ponds made by ore processing in Horní Benešov near Bruntál
Abstract
Mining wastes, represented by dumps and tailings, should be risk for environment. Directive EU No. 2006/21/EC and its national aproximation Zák. No.157/2009 Sb., have foccused to mining wastes. From this reason become the tailing ponds in Horní Benešov the object of our research, funded by Czech Grant Agency. The samples from 12 boreholes were analyzed by different chemical methods and were identified concetrations over national limits for Pb, Zn, As, partly for Ba and Hg at tailing sands. Samples of the surface waters outside of mininig waste area were without contamination. Two samples of stream sediments were with weakly higher contents of Pb and As, than national limits. The body of tailing ponds is safe, but the material inside is useless in present time.
