Use of microgravity survey for the location of old mine workings (Horní Město, Horní Benešov)
Abstract
Microgravity survey was carried out at two historic mining districts in northern Moravia: Horní Město near Rýmařov and Horní Benešov. The aim of survey was locating of old ore mine workings. At Horní Město, the old galleries and shafts cause cracking and subsidence of buildings and roads. At Horní Benešov surroundings the old galleries drain ground water and cause flooding and waterlogging of cultivated fields. At the centre of Horní Město we mapped by gravimetry two weakened (undermined) zones, on which lies the worst affected buildings in the village and on the road leading from Horní Město towards the Rýmařov we located an old mine shaft. At Horní Benešov we found position of two historic mining galleries in the vicinity of the former distillery.
