Abstract
Continuous section through sandstone-dominated facies of the Frýdek Formation was studied in the Ostravice river bed near Baška (Outer Western Carpathians, Czech Republic). The section consists mainly of fine grained greywacke sandstones with sandstone concretions. Angular grains indicate short transport. Claystones and siltstones contain coal dust. Claystones are rich in terrigenous organic material, which also indicates the rapid transport from the continent. Dinoflagellate cysts reveal Maastrichtian age of strata.
