Abstract

Engineering geological and geomorphological research of the potentially dangerous natural processes has been conducted in the Inca city of Machu Picchu and its surrounding since 2001. The research includes monitoring of the slope movements within the archeological site and continuous geomorphologic investigations of the adjacent Urubamba River valley and it slopes (VILÍMEK et al., in print). The research activities at the Machu Picchu are coordinated by the ICL - International Consortium on Landslides, where among others work teams from Japan, Italy, Canada, Peru, Slovakia, and Czech Republic.
