Abstract

The surroundings of Santa Lucia is mostly of denudation type. The Quaternary sediments represented by slope, fluvial and lacustrine deposits, inclusive those of the alluvial fans cover only limited parts of the map sheet. More significant with regards to paleogeography, stratigraphy and natural hazards are the mixed? (lacustrine) sediments. They are bound to usually landslide-dammed depressions and basins. They might be of different age as evidenced by 14C dating of the sediments s. of Boaco to 3,410 ± 35 years B.P. (middle Holocene). Natural hazards are landslides, sinkhole, alluvial fans and periodic floods.
